UCLA researchers now have the first evidence that bacteria ingested in food can affect brain function in humans. In an early proof-of-concept study of healthy women, they found that women who regularly consumed beneficial bacteria known as probiotics through yogurt showed altered brain function, both while in a resting state and in response to an emotion-recognition task. What is wrong with this chain of reasoning? Could it be the “clever” part?

If our thinking can be improved just by eating more… bacteria, could it be that we are even worse than worms? Where is free will in this process? Where is “we” in this process?

I always knew that something was wrong with all those “super philosophers” in ancient Greece. I now know: Plato and Artistole ate too much probiotics…
