The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has never been in the business of supporting pre-college science education and promoting health literacy to the public, says NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak. And now it’s official NIH policy, too. (1)

It seems bad to not have a leading research institute help in education. But what should education be about really?

Should children learn about new scientific research results? Is that what really matters? Should people on the front-lines of research funding wars have a say in education? Or should we “just” learn children how to think correctly?
